APC: the Lagos4Lagos movement organizes a parallel LG congress
A group within the Congress of All Progressives in Lagos – “Lagos4Lagos Movement” – held a parallel local government congress on Saturday in different parts of the state.
This comes as the APC group, led by the chairman of the state stewards’ committee, Tunde Balogun, held its congress in designated areas, as reported by the party’s local government congress committee.
The Niger News Agencyreported that the APC LGA congresses were held across the country on Saturday.
The Lagos4Lagos movement, led by Olajide Adediran, has alleged impunity, taxation and marginalization in the party for its action.
At Agege LGA, the group held its congress separately from the designated venue of the state’s dominant party.
At the congress, 27 LG executives and three national delegates also emerged, with Mr. Babatunde Odikunrin as chairman, Mr. Ogunleye Babatunde as vice chairman and 25 other officers.
The names of the three national delegates elected by the group were Mr. Sunday Ajayi, Dr. Kayode Opeifa and Mr. Afolabi Rasheed.
Speaking to reporters after the congress, Ajayi, vice chairman of the Lagos4 Lagos group’s Apex committee, said the group was handing the party back to the people.
Ajayi, who alleged impunity and impunity within the party, said the group held its LGA congress in accordance with guidelines from the national party body.
According to him, the group inaugurated on Friday all the neighborhood executives who emerged in his camp, during the neighborhood congresses of July 31 in the state.
Ajayi said the group used the consensus method, in accordance with party guidelines, to elect its LGA leaders from the 20 recognized LGAs in the state.
“Our cadres are the legitimate party cadres in the state today. The Lagos4Lagos movement is for everyone. We will lead the party according to the wishes of the members, ”he said.
Reacting to the development, Balogun said he was not aware of parallel congresses.
“It’s news for me, I just heard that. The reports I have received from these local governments are different from what you are saying.
“So by tomorrow, if you call me, I must have gotten enough information and I’ll get back to you.”
“I am not sure about parallel congresses. I cannot react to such news; I want to confirm it, ”said the interim president of the APC.
In Ifako / Ijaiye LGA, the Balogun faction held their congress in the Ifako-Ijaiye annex office, commonly known as the NRC building, while the Lagos4Lagos movement group camped in the Ojokoro area of the council.
Each camp produced separate groups of 27 LG leaders and three national party delegates to the council.
