Inspector General of Police Usman Baba has ordered an investigation to uncover the identity of an officer caught smoking weed in public in the Ijora area of Lagos State.
Sunday punch learned that the photo, which was taken by a worried man, had been posted online.
The post that went viral was reposted by Instagram on Instagram.
A message attached to the post read: “A Nigerian police officer in Ijora Lagos smoking weed on duty.”
Reacting to the developments, the Force’s Acting Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, while condemning the incident, said the IGP would take necessary disciplinary action against the errant policeman.
He noted that the Lagos State Police Command had been contacted to draft the officer for appropriate sanction.
He said: “The police have started the necessary actions on this ugly scene. We have contacted Lagos Command to draft, name and shame him, and the necessary disciplinary action will be taken by the IGP office with immediate effect.
“This is condemned in its entirety. It’s a pity that we can see a police officer, in uniform, degenerate at this level. We are simply acting against it to deter others.
