Omo-Agege’s assistant is not APC’s legal counsel – Spokesperson

The ruling All Progressives Congress issued a warning on Monday dismissing reports describing former APC leader Daniel Bwala as the party’s legal adviser.

The former special adviser on legal and constitutional issues to the vice president of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, announced his resignation on Sunday.

However, emerging trends on social media and online platforms in the past 24 hours have referred to Bwala as a former APC national legal adviser.

The jurist had renounced his membership in the party after the APC presidential standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, unveiled the former governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Bwala had expressed concerns that despite Nigerians’ fear and protests over the party’s disposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket, Tinubu could still settle for Shettima as his running mate.

His tweet read, “Tonight I officially resigned my membership in @OfficialAPCNg on principles and belief that are so dear to me. In this period of our national existence, our efforts and energy should be directed towards the unification of our people.

“Asiwaju announced Kashim Shetima as running mate. Kwankwaso plans to announce a Pentecostal bishop as running mate. Interesting times lie ahead.

Bwala’s resignation came hours after a former acting director general of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Ibim Semenitari, officially quit the party.

Semenitari, who was also a former Information Commissioner under the administration of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, reportedly sent her resignation letter to her APC Chairman Ward at Okrika LGA of l ‘State.

Semenitari’s predecessor, Ogbonna Nwuke, as well as another Amaechi loyalist, Allwell Onyeso, had previously left the APC for the People’s Democratic Party, Onyeso secured a senatorial ticket from the PDP for the 2023 elections.

Reacting to the tragedy, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka issued a warning on Monday to clarify the situation.

While stating that the party has never at any time engaged Bwala as a legal adviser, Morka maintained that Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq remains the official legal adviser.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating on certain media platforms that the national legal counsel for the Congress of All Progressives has resigned.

“Barr. Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq is and remains APC’s National Legal Counsel. Rod. Daniel Bwala was not the party’s national legal adviser, as mistakenly stated.

“The report is either the result of mischief or gross negligence. We urge the general public to please ignore.
