A teenager has been charged with the murder of a student in Manchester.
Luke O’Connor was fatally stabbed in Fallowfield in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 19-year-old has been described as “a bubbly, lively and handsome lad”.
Now police have charged Shiloh George Pottinger, 19, of Fallowfield, with murder and possession of a knife.
He will appear tomorrow at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.
Superintendent Helen Critchley of our City of Manchester South district said there had been “shock and injury” among students in the area.
She said: ‘Our detectives have been in contact with the Crown Prosecution Service who have cleared us this afternoon to charge a suspect in the murder of Luke, which is a significant moment in this case for all concerned.
“Luke and his family remain at the center of our investigation and my thoughts are with them tonight at the end of what has been the most devastating week of their lives.
“We have also felt the shock and pain in our large student community in Fallowfield, and we continue to listen and address the concerns that people have told us about this week.
“I would like to remind everyone that the criminal proceedings are active and that nothing should be published online which could compromise the defendant’s right to a free trial, so it is very important that people refrain from speculating or comment on social media throughout the hearing of the case.
“We are grateful for all the information the public has given us so far and anyone who has not spoken to us yet who may have details which could help our investigation should call 0161 856 6777 quoting the incident 240 of 26/10/2022.”
